Ever notice how stupid people used to be? For example, look at the persistent belief in spontaneous generation. Until recent times people actually thought that rotten meat "spontaneously generated" flies. Sweaty underwear placed in a bowl and covered with wheat was believed to generate mice.
What a bunch of morons!
Aaron told his brother Moses that everybody cast their gold into the fire and a golden calf came out. Moses didn't believe it, but the point is that this was the kind of story that a lot of people actually would believe.
Yep, stuff just happens. Who knew?
We are fortunate to live in the modern era when people are educated. We know that stuff doesn't just happen without a cause. There are exceptions.
Educated folk today commonly believe that life itself arose by a spontaneous event. Something happened to the primordial soup and Voila!; life began. Words on a page became a living document, evolving to suit the times. Meddling, oath-breaking judges are not to blame for this. We have a Constitution in the USA that is a LIVING DOCUMENT!
